How much do you know about cold-formed blister packaging?
First of all, let us learn about what medicinal cold stamping aluminum is. Medicinal cold stamped aluminum, also referred to as cold aluminum, is a composite high-barrier material. It is mainly used in pharmaceutical packaging of tablets and capsules and is in direct contact with the pharmaceuticals. It can block water, oxygen and sunlight for the packaged medicines, extending the service life of the medicines. This product is made of polyamide, aluminum and polyvinyl chloride through adhesive. It is also called cold stamping, cold forming cold aluminum, ALU-ALU cold forming foil/cold forming cold aluminum/COLD FORMING FOIL (CFF) , etc.
Where did cold formed blister come from?
Cold-formed blister packaging, like other pharmaceutical packaging, originated from food packaging applications. In the 1970s, the earliest cold-formed blister prototypes were used to package jam. Then in the mid-1970s, Bayer teamed up with some material scientists to find suitable packaging for aspirin tablets. The bottom application structure they chose at that time was PE/ALU/OPA, which is a packaging material similar to an easy-to-tear film. It was not until the late 1970s that cold-formed blister evolved into our current structure of OPA/ALU/PVC, and was well-temperature-free heat-sealed with PTP aluminum foil.
What are the advantages of cold aluminum?
Compared with the most common PVC material, cold aluminum is an upgraded version of packaging, and it has all the properties of PVC (easy to form, barrier properties). As for cold aluminum, due to the addition of aluminum foil properties, the barrier effect of the material is 60 times that of PVC, and the stability of packaged drugs is also much better than that of PVC.
Secondly, the sealing of cold aluminum and PTP aluminum foil does not require heating. For temperature-sensitive drugs, the temperature of PVC brewing, molding and heating and sealing will affect the quality of the packaged drugs.
What kind of products are suitable for cold forming packaging?
So what kind of products require this type of packaging is mainly determined by the characteristics and added value of the product. For drugs that are easy to absorb moisture, easily oxidize, need to be protected from light, are temperature sensitive and have high added value, we recommend using cold forming packaging materials.
